Mercer, a global leader in human resource consulting, has been running its Asia Pacific Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) network since 2006 bringing together senior regional Asia Pacific HSE practitioners from large global corporations. Mercer recently announced the Singapore chapter of this forum in light of the government's renewed focus on workplace safety & health issues and the strong presence of leadership of the multinational corporations in Singapore. To be held on 25th July at the Marina Mandarin, this year's forum will be opened by Professor David Chan who is a Director of the Behavioural Sciences Institute, a Lee Kuan Yew Fellow at Singapore Management University and a member of the Governing Board of the Singapore Workplace Safety and Health Institute.
Commenting on this development, Norman Tan, Mercer's Asia Pacific HSE Network Leader said, "Our forum members including the likes of Cargill, Merck, GE, Chevron, Baxter, Johnson & Johnson and Siemens are all looking forward to the Singapore event. We have lined up thought leaders on the subject such as Prof David Chan and Prof Chia Kee Seng, Dean, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. Our aim is to bring together industry leaders responsible for health, safety and environment for thousands in their workforce and provide them with a unique platform to address critical issues on HSE and integrate global thinking and local action by sharing best practices and contextualizing strategies for improving collective HSE performance."
Professor Chan, better known for his seminal work in behavioural sciences, is will discuss why and how organizations and governments should go beyond economics and engineering to take into account the socio-psychological contexts that influence how people think, feel and behave in the work environment.
Mr Qin Zhigang, Asia HSE Director for General Electric noted, "As a company with diversified and fast growing businesses in Asia, we have experienced an increased need for upgraded HSE solutions especially with the evolution of HSE over the past ten years. We appreciate the cohesive inter-company cooperation for emerging HSE issues, as well as legal and technical insights for burgeoning HSE laws and policies from Mercer Networks Asia Pacific HSE Group, which we believe, is a great platform to address that need."
